“A Call for being Flexible”
(A Reaction Paper on the Article “Filipino Language Office supports DepEd order on English Instruction”)

“English has always been the primary medium of instruction in terms of number of hours in a regular school situation and he believes that it will continue to be as long as the Constitution states the same wordings.”
---KWF---

The use of the English language as the medium of instruction to the elementary and secondary school levels and the medium of transaction to all public and private offices was always been a debate since time in memorial. Thus, the article dated June 09, 2007 expressed this kind of issue.
In my personal point of view, I am always in consideration to what is nationally recognized language---Filipino. However, I believe that there are things that we should be flexible of. Perhaps, the use of the English Language as the medium of expression in all government businesses and school’s agenda is a call for all of us to be flexible as one Filipino nation. I believe that in our world today as modernism reigns by the touch of our fingers, it is very important for us to be globally competitive. Thus, the use of the English language is one of the effective means to be in touch with the challenging demands of life such as communicative skills are concern. I am not there to disregard the Filipino language in the picture. But I believe that as human beings it is a call for us to flexible in any given situations at all times because humans as we are cannot be stagnant. Hence, I believe that we should exercise and practice ourselves in speaking the English language so that we may have a strong and reliable weapon in facing the world.
Our identity as a Filipino nation will remain as it is through our constant use and practice of the Filipino language but as the demands of the time dictates us, we must always be flexible. Let us always remember that as Filipinos we have the Filipino language as our national means or medium of communication and we must be thankful of having such kind of treasure. However, English is a demand that we cannot escape and that we must therefore, confined with.

“The Need to be Valued”
(A Reaction Paper on the Article “Filipino and Tagalog, Not so Simple”)

“Ang taong hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa mabaho at malansang isda”.
---Dr. Jose Rizal---

The article created by Ricardo Ma. Nolasco, Ph.D. exerted the points on we value and devalue our national language---Filipino. He emphasized the fact that as the bearers of such language, we have the responsibility to take good care of this medium that evidently depicts our identity as Filipino nation. However, after reading the said article, a question triggered unto my mind. “What is the common trend that is happening at the present moment that somehow demoralizes our national treasure, our language?” As an observation, I managed to see or hear those words that evidently destroy the prestige of the Filipino language. For example, the usage of the Filipino language in some way that it demoralizes its supremacy. There are many times that we used our own language in some immoral manners. The application of such language in bad or unnecessary words that are not appropriate to say or express. In the end, we sould take good care and value our language because it is an imperishable treasure.
